Biography

Dr. Aliye Tülay Baybağ has pursued parallel careers in medicine and the visual arts. Born in Istanbul on January 31, 1956, she graduated from Ankara Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi and completed her specialization in Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology at Haydarpaşa Numune Hastanesi.

While medicine occupied a central place in her professional life, art has always remained essential. Between 2007 and 2011, she graduated as valedictorian from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Visual Arts at FMV Işık Üniversitesi. Since then, she has been working in her studio in Moda, exhibiting her works in numerous solo and group exhibitions both in Turkey and internationally.

Her long-standing relationship with the microscope shaped the way she observes life — layer by layer. This perspective translates into a rich material and textural language in her work. When looking at objects, spaces, and people, she moves beyond the surface, imagining what might be revealed under magnification. In approaching the human body and spirit, she reflects on the layers and depths that compose them.

Her artistic practice is rooted in the desire to see what lies beneath the visible.
